Enclosure 416-8a

Hi,
what would be the best enclosure for the 416-8a? VOTT? Onken? Others?

I will use this set for Hifi. I have got tube amps with 2-6 Watt.

Hi,

According to Altec back in the 1970's ,the A7 or 828 is the best cabinet for the 416. Perhaps someone else has a different opinion.

The 360 liter onken was designed for that woofer. Plans are available on the internet and its supposed to be a pretty good combo.

Hi,

i have found enclosure plans model 825, but can't find the model 828. What are the differences?
Someone told me that the big Onken will not match with tube amps. Is that right?

Hi,

Prior to the 1970's the model no.was 825.I believe it was identical from the outer dimensions.As for the Onken cabinet unfortunately
I don't have anny experience with it.

I used the A7 ,A5, A8 cabinets for Live and Cinema
Application.

But be reassured that a tube amp sounds great with
the A7 cabinet.

Hi,

i am not sure what to build with the 416-8a forums

The Onken is easier to built and not that big, the A7 is more classical but more difficult to build.

Any suggestions?

Here is a link to a spread sheet for calculating onken enclosures. You can see how the high output impedance of SE tube amps will affect the design by changing the value of Rg.

there is an enclosure in the book "Hi Fi Loudspeakers and Enclosures" by Abraham. B. Cohen, seen frequently on Ebay which describes an infinite baffle for 2 416a and 511b. It measures 36w, 40h and 20-5/8d, describes as 16 cu.ft. I'e been using it since 1968. Situated in corners, it does just about all I could hope for.
